Try these 9 activities this June.

Men, it’s time to get active. No matter your age, shape or size, the benefits of physical activity are endless. It improves your mental health and helps you control weight. It helps relieve stress, especially when quitting smoking. Most notably, being physically active helps reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, the leading causes of death in American men.

June is Men’s Health Month — the perfect time to move more, reduce your risk of chronic diseases… and feel like a new man. Use the activities below for inspiration, and visit ShapeYourFutureOK.com for even more men’s health ideas.

Shoot Hoops

With the warm June weather, the outdoor activities for men are endless. Grab the basketball and play some one-on-one with a friend, or get the whole family involved and hoop it up with a game of H-O-R-S-E. No hoop? Hit up the courts at a nearby park!

Do Some Yard Work

Push for a healthier future by mowing the lawn or doing some yard work during Men’s Health Month. You can even give gardening a try! It’s a great way to work up a sweat, plus you’ll knock out some of your chores, too.

Wash the Car

Save time by getting some physical activity while you wash your car. Check out the video above and try Shape Your Future’s Car Wash Workout plan. It’s a simple way to move more… and to make your health (and your car) shine.

Take a Hike

Hiking is just one of many outdoor activities for families, and Oklahoma has dozens of hiking trails across the state. Find one near you, then lace up your boots and explore the wilderness with your family!

Go for a Ride

Take a liking to some biking! Shift your health into high gear by hitting the trails. Ride for at least 30 minutes to get your recommended amount of physical activity for the day. Or bring the kids along and help them get 60 minutes!

Toss the Pigskin

Ready to tackle some fitness? Play a game of touch football! Get the whole family involved, and invite friends and neighbors too. You’ll be passing, catching, running, juking and scoring plenty of physical activity. Be sure to hydrate with plenty of healthy, refreshing water too.

Walk the Dog

Unleash some physical activity with man’s best friend! Get your tail on a trail with your pup to get 30 minutes of physical activity. It’s doggone great for your health (and your dog’s health, too).

Camping

Log some time in the wilderness this June. Take a family hike in one of Oklahoma’s many state parks, or find a campground in your area. Bring a Frisbee or football along and play some catch after you pitch your tent. Remember to stay hydrated by drinking water while you hike and camp, too.

Grilling

Whether it’s around the campfire or in the backyard, get fired up for some healthy grilling. Add some tasty fruits and veggies to your barbeque, like grilled asparagus or some veggie kabobs. Or slice up a juicy watermelon for a mouthwatering side dish. Be sure to fill half your plate with fruits and veggies at every meal.

Remember, you don’t have to limit yourself to these activities. There are plenty of other ways you can boost your health this June. Just choose activities that you enjoy to help you stay motivated.

Just man-age to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day… and include fruits and veggies on your breakfast, lunch and dinner men-u, too. For more tips and recipes, visit ShapeYourFutureOK.com.
