5-Minute Tomato Sauce with Whole Grain Pasta

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves finely chopped garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper
  • 28 ounce can crushed or diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 zested lemon (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 ounces of whole grain pasta per serving

Instructions

  1. Combine the olive oil, red pepper flakes and garlic in a cold saucepan.
  2. Stir while you heat the saucepan over medium-high heat, sauté just 45 seconds.
  3. Stir in the tomatoes and heat to a gentle simmer.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Stir in the lemon zest reserving a bit to sprinkle on top of your pasta.
  6. Dash of salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Cook whole grain pasta as directed and serve with sauce.
