WANT EVEN MORE HEALTHY IDEAS FROM SHAPE YOUR FUTURE?

No supermarket in sight? No problem! Here are 9 healthy meals and snacks you can grab from most gas stations — whether you’re on the road, in a time crunch or don’t live near a grocery store.

granola bars

1. Granola bar + banana

Granola bars are the most convenient breakfast choice, bar none… but they aren’t all created equal. Check the labels and choose the one with the least sugar and most protein.

2. Yogurt

The same goes for yogurt. It can be a healthy option, but some kinds have as much fat and sugar as a donut! Go with Greek if it’s available — it often packs the most protein.

3. Instant oatmeal

Oatmeal is loaded with fiber, protein and vitamins, keeping you full for hours. Play it safe and stick with plain oats… or choose the flavor with the least sugar.

chicken wrap

4. Grab-and-go wrap, salad or sandwich

Many convenience stores have a refrigerated section with salads, wraps and sandwiches. Aim for whole grains, light dressings and lean meats like turkey or chicken.

5. Hard-boiled egg + a can of tuna

Feeling egg-stra hungry? Opt for this one-two punch! Tuna and eggs are both high in protein and low in calories, so they’ll satisfy your hunger and support your goals.

6. Jerky + a hummus and veggie cup

Jerky is a great on-the-go protein source, but too much red meat can increase your risk for heart disease. If it’s available, call on its leaner, healthier cousin: turkey jerky! Make it a meal with a hummus and veggie cup.

water and almonds

7. Unsalted nuts

You can’t spell “nutritious” without “nut”! Aptly named, they’re chock-full of vitamins, protein and healthy fats.

8. Apple + peanut butter

Apples are healthy to the core! Pair one with peanut butter, a solid source of protein and healthy fat.

9. Water or unsweetened tea

Wash down your healthy meal or snack with an ice-cold water or unsweet tea. Fruit juices, smoothies and sports drinks may sound healthy, but they’re often as sugary as soda!
